You might not have heard of Mosselbay, but it’s very busy

Mossel Bay, Rich in History
One of the most interesting things about Mosselbay is its
history. Known as the capitol of the Garden Route, it has
long been a favorate vacation spot for South Africans. From
pleasure boats to campers, all found a welcoming locale for annual
excursions. Today, Mosselbay boasts modern docking features,
and has become a truly unique tourist spot, well-equipped to handle the

In past years, Mosselbay was known as a busy export dock for ochre,
ostrich feathers, and wool. Many of the well-preserved
buildings in the town date from that period. Mossel Bay was
named by seaman Paulus van Caerden in a nod to the delicious mussels on
which he and his crew feasted in the tropical locale.
